On the 28th September 2016, Gerwyn Tumelty, Tidal Lagoon’s Operations & Maintenance Manager, will update members of the IMechE South Cumbria Area, the ICE and the Professional Engineers South Cumbria (PESC) on the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project. Organised by the IMechE South Cumbria Area Young Members Panel the presentation forms part of the panel’s 2016 Technical Lecture Programme and will be given in The Forum, Barrow-in-Furness. As the world’s first tidal lagoon, the £1.3 billion Swansea Bay project was granted planning permission in June 2015 with construction scheduled to begin in late 2017. As well as giving an update, Gerwyn will discuss how it establishes a scalable blueprint for a fleet of tidal lagoons in the UK that could meet up to 8% of our electricity demand.
